Name: Dave Dillewaard
Years riding: 11
Hometown: Brisbane, Australia
US Residence: Greenville, North Carolina

How did you get into BMX?  My brother and my neighbor got me started pretty much. We used to watch moto movies heaps but couldn’t afford them so we got bikes and started diggin jumps.

What was the first trick you learned that you remember being stoked on?  I think no footed can cans, l learned one handers and one footers before that but learning no footed cans is a stand out one for me.

Who were the riders you looked up to coming up? We would only get a few BMX video tapes available in Australia so we didn’t have too much to watch back then but definitely Joe Rich, Fuzzy, TJ Lavin stand out in my head.

Being from Australia, what was the biggest thing you worried about your first time over? I think the money probably, I came over on a holiday with a bunch of money saved up and with the exchange rate it was gone quick.

Australia riders all come to the US and kill it, Why do you think that it is? cause Aussies are awesome!

Dave, I have spent some time in Australia and the fact is it is better than the States hands down, it must be hard to leave that place: It’s really hard, leaving family and friends sucks every time but I have a whole other group of friends in the States so that makes up for it. I still miss home-cooked meals the most though.

The 08 season was rough, how did you get through that and how are you now? Yeah 08 sucked for me, I was off prob 8 - 9 months, with a messed up wrist then elbow then hand, all on my left arm.. now I am pretty much 100 % my arm has got its muscle back and I’m excited for a good healthy year.

Dave, you have been on GT for a while now and it seems that you fit in very well there. What’s it like riding for a company that has such a big BMX history?  Riding for GT is awesome, I think this is my 6th year riding for them now and there have been a lot of changes over that time. I’m really excited in the direction we are taking the team now by doing road trips, filming and getting GT out there in the right way.

How stoked were you that End Search won the video of the year award at NORA cup? Yeah I was really stoked to be a part of End Search. We had a sick time filming it and, yeah, winning vid of the year was icing on the cake! I’m currently working on a full part for the Demolition DVD which is coming out later on in the year so that’s gonna be sweet.

It’s cool to see GT doing trips and getting out there like other BMX teams. How did that come about? Me and my team manager, Chuck Fallon, have been trying to do stuff like this for a few years and this year we got the go ahead. Our first trip was to my home town in Brisbane and it worked out real sick, we have a few more trips coming up this year that will be sweet.

I heard you just got your Green Card so what’s up with that?  Two years and thousands of dollars later I am a permanent resident of the USA now. I am just glad all the paperwork and waiting is over, it was a pain in the ass to get but I’m glad I got it done now. I don’t have to worry about anything for 10 years.

Anyone that has seen you ride is always blown away but how smooth and dialed you are is that something you think about when you’re riding or is that just how you do it? I dunno, I just ride and try to flow around. I raced when I started out riding and always rode trails so I think that helps a lot.

Well that’s all I got for now so thanks: No worries, I want to say thanks to GT for supporting me over the years and everyone that’s helped out. Thanks to Demolition, Famous Stars and Straps and Etnies for hookin it up!
