GT News: GT Bicycles UCI World Cup Report

5/11/2009

The GT professional MTB team began their European campaign of the UCI World Cup downhill circuit in La Bresse, France. The team had a short break after the Sea Otter Classic event and were anxious to get on some of the legendary courses of the tour.

With the threat of rain and the tricky sections of the course the team was trying their best to prepare for all conditions. They all ran their qualifying runs on a dry course so there were no real surprises after practicing their runs. Kevin had a tough run but managed to make the cut to the final along with teammate Marc Beaumont. DH stunner Mick Hannah didn’t feel the like he had a solid run but still managed to secure the 3rd fastest time in qualifying.

The threat of rain was looming as the finals approached. As the finals started the course was dry during Kevin’s run helping him put down a good time for the rookie giving him a decent placing on the day. Teammate Marc Beaumont came down in the rain that rolled in part way through the finals. He held on through the slick sections and rolled through the finish in 17th.

Early season standout Mick Hannah wasn’t feeling his best on the short French course but you wouldn’t have known it after he landed on the podium on his GT Fury with a third place! The run even surprised him but he will take it as it keeps him firmly planted in the > spot in the overall UCI World Cup rankings.

The team now packs their bags for the next event in Vallnord, Andorra. Even with the weather report forecasting snow and rain the gracious crew in Andorra always make sure everyone is having a good time. Check back next week on how the GT team fares in Andorra.
