The 15th annual Shimano Winter Series took place this past weekend and GT Bicycles took top honors, again. It was an action packed weekend of racing and the last race of the series which raised the excitement for everyone. Nice weather throughout the weekend provided a great atmosphere and helped keep the courses in good condition. All the top riders from each class were all close in points leading up to this race which meant that everyone needed to have a strong race.

The 4X race was held on Saturday and GT’s gated-racing specialist, Eric Carter, went into the race with the overall series title already locked into place. With many top pros in attendance, such as Dale Holmes and Brian Schmith, the racing action was going to be good! EC was undefeated in 4X leading up to this race but during the finals he was unfortunately directed off course by a fellow competitor which caused him to finish in 4th place. Luckily his consistency paid off and Eric Carter was crowned the 2009 Shimano Winter Series Overall Mountain Cross Champion!

The downhill race took place on Sunday and some early morning showers helped give the course the traction it needed. The race course was a combination of different sections from each course of the series and it turned out to be one of the most fun courses of the entire season. GT's Kevin Aiello had a great weekend and finished the race with a 6th place finish and topped off the day with taking 5th place in the overall series! Eric Carter finished in 1st place for the day and also clinched the overall series title! Eric and Kevin stood proudly on the podium and received their well deserved awards. Also on the podium was GT factory race mechanic John Canepa who won his 4th consecutive race in a row in the Expert class which was enough to help him capture the overall series title as well! The whole team is aboard the new GT Fury carbon downhill bikes which have performed flawlessly since their debut.

Team GT had an awesome weekend with some incredible results and the excitement will continue into this week at the Fontana Nationals, held March 26-29.
