GT News: USAC Nationals Championships & ABA Super Nationals
3/23/2009
Mike Day:
Elite Men – Friday: DNQ
USAC NC Elite Men - Saturday: 4th
Elite Men - Sunday: DNQ
Mike has been on a bit of a down swing after being ON FIRE for nearly six months straight. He came to Texas with high hopes of doing well but it just didn’t seem to be in the cards for him. Like he usually does, he was riding really well on the track and also like he usually does, if he got behind he was seemingly passing guys at will around the very tricky DeSoto Metroplex track. Unfortunately, when it was ¼ final time both Friday and Sunday he just seemed to have no luck at all. He did well on Saturday at the National Championships with a solid fourth place overall.
Elite Men - Friday: 6th
USAC NC Elite Men - Saturday: 8th
Elite Men – Sunday: 5th
Nobody in BMX has been as fast as Joey Bradford so far in 2009. He may not have the best finishes of the year but he sure has been the fastest racer. On Friday, he was in a solid second place in the main event as they rounded turn two. Just then, he hit a soft spot and lost the front end of the bike and went down. He ended the day in sixth. Saturday, at the National Championships, he was straight up winning when he got dove on in turn two by Olympic Bronze medalist Donny Robinson and then pushed off the track and ended up in eighth. Sunday wouldn’t be much better as he was winning going into turn one but got dove on by current ABA National Champion Kaylan Young and pushed WAY HIGH in the turn. Joey had to do all he could just to stay on the track. He ended the day in a VERY disappointing fifth place.
Eric Rupe:
Elite Masters – Friday: 7th
USAC NC Elite Masters - Saturday: DNQ
USAC NC Cruiser – Saturday: 1st
Elite Masters – Sunday: DNQ
Bubba Gonzales:
10x - Friday: 2nd
10 cru – Friday: 2nd
USAC NC 10x - Saturday: 1st
10x – Sunday: DNQ
10 cru – Sunday: 4th
The awesome 10 year-old Michael “Bubba” Gonzales has been a part of the GT Co-Factory team for the last year and has just been rippin it up. This weekend would be no exception. On Friday, Bubba almost took home a double win by placing second in each class but more than made up for it on Saturday at the USAC National Championship by winning the 10 boys class. He’s your new National Champion 10 year old boy. Way to go Bub!!
