THE RACE TO THE BEACH
All Photos by Sven Martin.
The 8th and final race of the season takes place in one of the most beautiful settings in the world. Situated in the Italian Riviera, Finale Ligure is known for it’s white sand beaches and hillside towns.
Martin’s balance between his focus and relaxed attitude makes him one of the favourites in the Enduro World Series. He would not dissapoint in Finale.
The secret is in the tire cut. Team manager Mark Maurrisen perfects the cut.
Practice began on Thursday and Martin took no time in finding speed and style throughout the stages.
Anneke’s viral infection that she suffered 2 races ago still lingers and unfortunately took her out of the race after the 2 hour climb to the top of stage 1. Despite only being able to race 4 races this season, she finishes in 9th place over all.
Wyn’s had a challenging season in 2016. Despite dealing with an injured knee most of the season, he’s managed to finish in 28th in Finale and 43rd overall.
Sambo is back and was all smiles! Sam pushed so hard that he reportedly had arm pump in the climbs. Hope to see you at more Enduros Sam!
It was riding like this that left Martin, after Day 1 of racing, with 3 stage wins and nearly a 30 second lead.
Martin finished 2 days of racing in 1st place. Congratulations on your FIRST EVER Enduro World Series win!
“Definitely a weekend to remember. First win at a EWS and it feels amazing. I have been waiting for this for a long time. I was nervous by the end of the big day yesterday. Stoked for my sponsors and the GT Sanction! A beast!” - Martin Maes
Ciao! Signing off from Finale! The team is going to take some much needed rest. On behalf of GT Factory Racing - thank you to all the partners that have made this season possible and our friends and family for their continued support!
