GT BMX Team Captures Big Wins In Kentucky!
Sep 4, 2012
Aug 31-Sept. 2, 2012, USABMX Blue Grass Nationals, Louisville, KY -- Felicia Stancil was unstoppable in Louisville, Ketucky, this weekend at the USABMX Blue Grass Nationals. At 17, she dominated the Elite Women’s class all three days and also won the girls 17-21 class Friday and Saturday. She was one of only two women jumping the pro section on almost every lap over the weekend. It brought the crowd to their feet whenever she was on the track. The wins gave her the coveted Eastern Region Championship title for her class. It was a great weekend Felicia. Congratulations!
The event in Kentucky was the first of its kind in BMX, as it was the first time there was an Eastern and a Western Region Champion in each class crowned at the end the three days of racing. Along with Felicia the GT Bicycles team of Mike Day, Jordan Miranda, Sean Gaian and Big Daddy Eric Rupe were on hand to take their shot at winning the regional championship title.
Big Daddy Eric Rupe has been coming to the Louisville track since he first won the Men’s Elite class here in 1983. It’s one of his favorite tracks and a highlight on his personal race schedule, probably due to the fact that he was the first pro race winner here when they held their first national event and because he won his second consecutive Elite Pro National Championship here in 1984, along with several other pro titles over the years. No doubt there are tons of good vibes coming out of this place for the Big Daddy. He looked to dominate both the classes entered and put his Speed Series XL and 24 in the winners circle all three days. A back injury on Thursday hindered him slightly as he managed to win the cruiser class Friday and Saturday. In the end he still captured the Eastern Region Championship for the cruiser class.
Sean Gaian was as impressive as Felicia was all weekend long. He won every single lap he rode and looked to cap off the weekend with an expert class win on Sunday. As I said, the rains came and it’s anyone’s race when the conditions are like that. He was leading heading into turn one, but that’s when another rider fell next to Sean and took him down, pretty much from behind. Five out of the six classes he entered he was a winner, so it was a great weekend for him just the same. Sean won the Eastern Region Championship for the 16 expert class.
Mike Day got off on a slow start on Friday getting to the semi final and missed the cut by just one point. Saturday he made the very stacked main event and finished a strong fifth place. Sunday he was in the semi final and got tangled up in a bit of a mess in turn two, right before the pro section of the track and ended up finishing a disappointing fifth place. Not to worry, as Mike still has tons of fans and signed many autographs as well as took lots of pictures with the fans in Louisville.
Jordan Miranda was riding well and looked good as he made all his main events on the weekend. He managed a strong podium finish in the Jr Men’s class on Saturday and took a solid second place in 17-18 expert on Sunday. The vigorous training schedule that Jordan has been on looks to be coming together so expect Jordan to finish off the season strong in Tulsa, OK, in November.
