Rockford, Illinois -- The GT Bicycles BMX team continued their winning ways at the latest stop on the USABMX 2012 tour in Rockford, Illinois. With a skeleton crew of riders, Felicia Stancil, Sean Gaian, and Eric Rupe, shined like they always do and kept GT in the podium spotlight.
Rockford is one of the most historic tracks in BMX racing. A lot of great racing has gone down on the legendary course which draws thousands of racers to its sidelines every year. Known as more of a “power track” it displays who can really lay down the horsepower and carry high speeds to the finish line.
When you talk about horsepower in the ladies classes, the first name that comes to mind is GT Bicycles Flyin’ Felicia Stancil. Felicia lives near the famed Rockford track so she gave all of the competition a local tour of how to get around the course very fast. The 2012 UCI Junior Women’s World Champ’ went undefeated all weekend in both the Junior Womens and 17-27 Girls classes. With the string of wins Felicia is putting together, it should put her in the running for the overall Girls amateur title at the end of the season.
The team’s spiritual advisor, coach, historian, mechanic, truck driver and cheerleader, Eric “Big Daddy” Rupe has been coming to Rockford since dirt was invented, and at 49 years old, he isn’t slowing down. Rupe handily won the 46-50 cruiser class both days on his GT Speed Series Pro 24. He almost got a pair of wins in the 41 & Over Expert Class but just missed out with a 2nd on Sunday.
Sean Gaian put in another incredible performance. The super-quick 16-year-old has been on top of the Junior Development and 16 Expert leader boards since the start of the season. Sean gated up against the fastest amateurs in the East and Mid West and walked away with wins in both divisions. The results secure Sean’s lead in the Junior Development series and keeps him in the running for the overall National Number One Amateur.
The team now has a short break until they converge on Louisville, Kentucky, Labor Day weekend for the USABMX Blue Grass Nationals.
The GT Bicycles team is honored to be supported by GoPro cameras, Alpine Stars, Tioga tires, Lizard Skins grips, Alienation rims, SDG, Troy Lee Designs, Shimano, Box Components, KMC chains, Sapim spokes and Status bike stands.
