Two second places for GT Factory Racing in the Highlands

Marc Beaumont and Rachel Atherton of GT Factory Racing both narrowly missed out on winning at Round Two of the British Downhill Series up at the brutal Fort William track.

Adverse weather conditions again came into play, a forecast of high winds and torrential rain led the organisers to bring forward Sunday's race to Saturday evening . This time however it didn't play in favour of the team who had only ridden the official practice allotted by the organisers. Many others, including both winners of the events, had ridden earlier in the week to gain extra time on the long and testing track.

With only one day to get to grips with and then race the course both Marc and Rachel crammed in more runs than usual in a bid to get up to speed.

Rachel was first up, she was chasing down Round 1 winner Manon Carpenter who set a very strong time of 5.31.180. Rachel rode strong and fast, she was happy with her run which ended up shy of Carpenter's time by 1.3 seconds. "It was hard up there today, I got as much done as I could, but I really could have done with a few more runs to get my confidence up - I guess theres nothing you can do about the weather!" mentioned Rachel.

Marc was in a similar situation to Rachel. Having only one run on the Friday meant that he had to ride nonstop on Saturday to get to grips with the track, six practice runs is not the norm before a race run but in this situation it was all that could be done. The early time of Matt Simmonds seemed to be the one to beat and when Marc hit the final few jumps it was clear he was quicker, his time of 4.52.632 bettered Simmonds' time by nearly 3 seconds with just one rider to go. But that rider was the current World Champion - Danny Hart. Hart had no issues with practice, he had been at the venue since Wednesday and this showed as he put in an amazing run to take the win by half a second over Marc. "it was a hard day for us today, we did what we could to claw back lost ground to the riders who had been here earlier this week. I'm happy with the run and the bike was running really well so I can't ask for much more" said Marc.

The team now rest up for a weekend before the next batch of races. Gee aims to be back on the bike for the IXS Cup in Leogang which precedes the second round of the World Cup in Italy.

Rachel Atherton win iXS Season Opener

The first race of the iXS European Downhill Cup is now history, dominated by bad weather on race day it took a unusual twist of fate for Miss Atherton.

As usual the year for the iXS races starts at Monte Tamaro in the Swiss Rivera. This year's course was changed only slightly from last years being 2.5 k in length with a vertical drop of 640, which makes it one of the longest courses in the series. It wasn't only the topography that made this track tough the course was littered with roots and rocks that put the riders all on edge as they tackled the tough track. The field of starters included some big names with a number of favourites for the podium.

After the weather conditions had been perfect for the official training on Friday and the seeding run on Saturday, things changed on Sunday as thick fog and rain made it impossible to secure the course. As a consequence the race had to be cancelled, as any attempts to rescue riders with the help of a helicopter would have been impossible. Therefore the results of the seeding run were declared as final results.

This played into GT Factory Racings hands as Rachel Atherton had taken the win in seeding giving her the title in the women’s elite class, finishing almost 12 seconds in front of the current world champion Emmeline Ragot . The course seemed to suit her well and although reluctant to push 100% she still managed to shine above the strong field.

Rachel's next event sees her up in Fort William, Scotland for the 2nd round of the British Downhill Series where she will be looking to continue this momentum on on another brutal track.

Belgian National Championships Recap

It was a nice and easy track with nothing too big but it was pretty fun to race with its fast turns. I was feeling good from the beginning of the day. TV followed me from the warm up to the finals and we didn't get too much practice due to the number of riders in all categories.

I won all my motos and was feeling good. My gates were consistent and made it to the main without any problems.

Had a good start from gate 1 but just came up a bit short on the first jump which made me lose a little bit of time.

I recovered and came back for a nice win on my GT Speed Series!

It always feels good to win at home, even if it's not the hardest competition, it makes it sometimes even more difficult. I didn't want to miss the title. So I'm feeling better and better after my crash in the begin of the year. Next stop Orleans France for the last round of the European Championships.

	Thanks for the support!

GT Bicycles Factory Aces Sophia Foresta, Sean Gaian, Felicia Stancil, Jonas Harmon and Eric Rupe all scored wins over the weekend in Phoenix at the USABMX Winter Nationals!

To use a cliche', "It was hot on and off the track" at the Black Mountain Raceway. The event saw record setting temperatures for the Phoenix area for the Month of April with a high of 105 degrees on Sunday. The GT Factory Race Team stay cool and focused to take home a string of wins despite the will-zapping heat.

The winning started off with lil' lady of the team Sophia "Sprinkles" Foresta leading the 12 year old girls class around the track all weekend showing that she and her GT Speed Series bike be a contender for the number one title at the end of the season.

Junior Development series leader Sean Gaian continued his success in the class by winning the hugely competitive class on Saturday. He then capped off his weekend with a decisive win in the 16 Expert Boys Class reaffirming his position on top of the leader board for the number one amateur in the country.

The standout performance of the weekend has to go to Flyin' Felicia Stancil. The female phenom from Illinois owned the Junior Womens and the 16 Girls classes by not losing a lap all weekend. Just off a reinjured broken thumb Felicia looked as if she had not missed a step with a solid performance against the top young women in the country. Stancil will now head to the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista California to begin a weeklong Elite Training Camp wilth USA Cycling. The honor is only bestowed upon those who are top contenders for the international events and Felicia is the youngest member of the prestigious group.

"Mr Congeniality" of the GT team is Utah born and bred Jonas Harmon. Jonas is one of the friendliest yet hardest working members of the squad. His hard work paid off with a 1st and and 2nd in the 31-35 Cruiser Class. Under the tultilage of Eric Rupe, look for Harmon to be a front runner for the #1 plate in the class at the end of the season.

Team leader and BMX icon Eric "Big Daddy" Rupe took down the 46-50 Cruiser Class both days to reaffirm his position as the man of the older cruiser classes. Rupe would avoid near catastrophe with falling riders in the start gate and other misfortunes that would distract an average racer but the wily legend persevered to come out on top.

The team now will take a break to prepare and focus on upcoming races in Tennessee and California. Be sure to follow updates about the team on Twitter (@GTBIcycles) and Facebook.

Beaumont Stamps his Marc on the British National Series

Marc Beaumont of GT Factory Racing took the opening round of the Halo British Downhill Series yesterday in drying conditions on the Coombe Sydenham racetrack.

The Somerset venue hadn't seen a National round since 2004 but this weekend marked the Series' return to the tricky course with riders facing varying conditions as showers passed over the event throughout its duration.

Saturday's practice saw the most of the rain with a good downpour transforming the track to a wet slippery surface, however this improved steadily throughout the evening and Sunday.

Seeding saw the first glimpse of what Marc had in store for the weekend as he took the fastest time by a clear 3 seconds over Joe Smith and Josh Bryceland.

Seeding first meant Marc started the race as the last person on track and with times improving on the drying track he had a tough task ahead. Local South West rider Rich Thomas took the early pace but it wasn't until Santa Cruz's Josh Bryceland clocked a time of 2 minutes and 28 seconds that Beaumont's seeding time of 2 minutes and 27 seconds looked to be in jeopady. Smith was next to come but a mistake up top cost him the chance of bumping Bryceland off the top, leaving only Marc.

A strong top section put him 1.6 seconds up on Josh at the interval time, a smooth second half of the run wowed the crowds as they watched on to see Beaumont take the win by a comfortable 2.9 seconds.

Beaumont, made up with the result, commented "it was a good run, I held back on entry speed on a few corners just to make sure I got around and out of them with the right speed, it's great to take the first round and I'm excited about the rest of the season". Marc races a local race next weekend before heading North for Round 2 of the British series.

Teammate of Marc and youngest Atherton sibling Rachel came close to a dream comeback after missing the first World Cup season in favour of recovering her troubled shoulder. Feeling strong but far from 100%, Rachel took to the track chasing young gun Mannon Carpenter who took an amazing 2nd spot out in South Africa.

A red flag during the race meant Rachel had to restart after a blistering top half - she didn't get fazed and got stuck in once again on her re-start, unfortunately it wasn't quite enough as she missed out to Carpenter by just 0.6 seconds.

However she was happy as it was good for her just to be back on her bike - 'I've only ridden my new bike for 5 days including yesterday's practice so I'm made up. I'm actually this close to Mannon, there's time to knuckle down now though before the next race and that's exactly what I'm going to do" commented Atherton.

Rachel's brother Gee watched on from the sidelines having to sit this one out with a broken tibia. He's hoping for a return before the next World Cup in Val di Sole, Italy, while eldest sibling Dan marks his start to the season in Italy at the Super Enduro event at the start of May.

GT Elites Take On Worlds Best in Norway

GT mounted Frenchman Quentin Caleyron battled the field of over one hundred world class competitors to earn 5th place at the second round of 2012 UCI BMX SX series held in Randaberg Norway this weekend. The up-and-coming French national team member piloted his 2012 GT Speed Series to the finals at the Randaberg Arena on a unique indoor course that consisted of brick paver turns and jumps.

Standout performances were also put in by GT Factory Team members Joris Daudet and Mike Day. Daudet, the 2011 UCI World Champion, was looking untouchable by winning all of his qualifying races along with the quarterfinal. An ill timed start in his semi final put him mid pack down the first straight but the Frenchman was working the field and was up contending for 2nd place by the second turn but found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time when he clipped the lead riders rear wheel sending Joris straight up the run dashing his hopes of racing in the final.

2008 Olympic Silver Medalist Mike Day also had an equally impressive run towards the final by starting off the weekend with a 3rd and a 5th in the Time Trial heats. Mike them showed his blazing track speed to his competitors by leading his qualifying rounds. The American put on a display of his magician-like bike skills in his quarterfinal by charging though the pack to nearly win the lap. Day would find himself pinched off of the start of his semi but could not make up enough ground to secure his spot in the final.

In the Elite Womens group, GT was represented by French sensation Manon Valentino. She put down some of the fastest times of the weekend in the Time Trial and carried the high speeds in to the qualifying rounds. Placing well in her first three rounds she qualified easily all the way up to the semi final. The semi often sees do or die attempts to make one of the top-4 spots and Manon fell victim to a competitors move that left her and a few others laying in the first turn.

The level of competition is getting deeper at each race as everyone is stepping up their game with the Olympic games quickly approaching in August. GT team standouts Corben Sharrah (USA), Martijn Jaspers (NED), Arnaud Dubois (BEL) and Romain Riccardi (ITA) all were looking impressive but some rough luck would stall their efforts in the early qualifying heats. The team will now get back on their training routine to prepare for the next event in Papendal Netherlands for the third round of the UCI BMX SX on May 11th and 12th.

The 2012 GT BMX Factory BMX Team is proud to be supported by Alpine Stars, GoPro cameras, Tioga tires, Alienation rims, Troy Lee Designs helmets, SDG seats and posts, Lizard Skins grips, KMC chains FSA, Shimano, Box Components and Sapim spokes.
GT Factory Team Earns USA National Champion Titles!

The highly talked about GT Factory race team came away with three USA Cycling National Championship titles this past weekend in Chula Vista California. Jack Kelly (9 Boys), Sean Gaian (16 Boys) and Eric "Big Daddy" Rupe (45 & Over Cruiser) all decisively won their classes to earn the coveted title of USA Cycling National Champion.

GT teammates Sophia Foresta (12 Girls) and Jonas Harmon (31 Expert Men) came close to earning national champion titles but fell short. The flying-little-Foresta was nipping at the top spot of the podium with two 2nd place finishes in Cruiser and Class. Harmon battled with a stacked field of competitors in the 30 & Over Mens Class to earn a spot on the podium with a 3rd.

Along with the amateur race on the USABMX track, USA Cycling held the Junior and Elite national championship race on the SX track that would really separate out who the best riders are. The GT athletes that would gate up on the 30-foot-tall start hill would be team leaders Mike Day and Corben Sharrah in the Elite Mens class and Jordan Miranda in the Junior Mens class. Junior Womens standout Felicia Stancil would not be able to compete due to a wreck that injured her hand.

The race, which had a US-only field of competitors, had GT's Corben Sharrah in their sites, as he was the defending USA Cycling National Champion. Corben would win his heats handily as did Mike and Jordan. As the field was narrowed down to the top-8 Mike and Corben would secure gate positions in the Elite Mens final as well as Jordan in the Junior Mens final. Gusty winds would make navigating the course even more difficult but Mike and Corben ran a hard fought race that saw a lot of action. Mike would just miss the podium with a 4th and Corben in 7th. Jordan would have the wind affect his charge for the win but stayed up to get 6th.

In conjunction with the national championship event, USABMX held the SoCal Nationals. The race would pull in over a thousand participants racing on the Chula Vista amateur racetrack that is on Olympic Training Center facility near the SX track.

The GT Factory Amateur Team was in full force and all showed why they are on the most prestigious race team in BMX. Jack Kelly started the ball rolling with wins in 9-10 Open and 9 Expert and was followed by Sophia Foresta's dominance in 12 Girls and 12 Girls Cruiser. Chula Vista local and National #1 contender Sean Gaian added to his national win streak by taking the 16 Expert class both days. Team mentors Jonas Harmon and Eric Rupe also stepped up on the top of the podium with Harmon earning wins in 31-35 Cruiser both days and Big Daddy Rupe dominating 46-50 Cruiser.

The GT Factory Amateur Team will take a short break and will line up in Black Mountain Arizona for the next stop on the USABMX tour April 20-22.

The 2012 GT BMX Factory BMX Team is proud to be supported by Alpine Stars, GoPro cameras, Tioga tires, Alienation rims, Troy Lee Designs helmets, SDG seats and posts, Lizard Skins grips, KMC chains FSA, Shimano, Box Components and Sapim spokes.

GT Elite Team Takes On All Challengers In Chula Vista

Round #1 of the 2012 UCI BMX SX series and the USA Cycling National Championships were held over the weekend in Chula Vista California at the US Olympic Training Center. The field was the deepest and most competitive ever with the worlds best BMX racers all in attendance looking to earn valuable points to earn a spot on their respective country's Olympic team.

GT Factory Team members Mike Day, Corben Sharrah, Joris Daudet, Martijn Jaspers, Manon Valentino and Felicia Stancil were all in attendance and were prepared to push their 2012 GT Speed Series bikes to their limits on the track

The weekend started out with the Time Trial event where each athlete took on the clock rather than a competitor on the track. The time trial would supply a preview to who was going fast and would be the ones to watch in the elimination rounds. The GT mounted athletes finished near the top with Corben Sharrah nearly taking the win with the second fastest time with Mike Day right behind him in 3rd and the teams' flying-Frenchman Joris Daudet getting in the mix with a 6th.

The Womens field was every bit as competitive as the Mens and the GT girls battled the gusting winds with the teams young gun gal Felicia Stancil taking a well respected 12th and Manon Valentino earning 16th.

The elimination rounds would prove tough for all racers as everyone has been training hard and the game has been elevated to a new level. Sharrah, Day and Daudet would all move on from the round of 64 to the round of 32 where they would have to finish in the top-4 in their respective heats. Corben and Mike would find themselves facing each other in their quarter with Sharrah moving on after Day getting caught inside in the last turn loosing speed. Daudet too would suffer similar troubles and would not advance.

Sharrah and the GT ladies, Stancil and Valentino, would advance to their semi-main, round of 16. Felicia and Manon would have their day cut short from a crash of a competitor over the first jump keeping them both out of the final. Corben would have to deal with a mistimed gate start but could not recover leaving him just short of the main event.

Next stop for the team will be Randaberg Norway for the second round of the UCI BMX SX April 12-14.

The 2012 GT BMX Factory BMX Team is proud to be supported by Alpine Stars, GoPro cameras, Tioga tires, Alienation rims, Troy Lee Designs helmets, SDG seats and posts, Lizard Skins grips, KMC chains FSA, Shimano, Box Components and Sapim spokes.

Podium for Gee in South Africa

A strong performance for GT Factory Racing at the first World Cup of the year in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. Under constant changing conditions the Brit pair of Marc Beaumont and Gee Atherton took to the challenging track at the Cascades Mountain Bike Park in a bid to start the season off on a flyer.

The weekend started badly for Beaumont who hit a tree on the first day of practice, he had to nurse that injury through qualifying which he did well to take a solid 15th spot. Team mate Atherton started slowly in the hope to build up for the finals on Sunday, his qualifier a very solid 4th spot and just 1.7 seconds from fastest rider and native Greg Minnaar.

The weather however threatened to change things dramatically as a heavy rain storm sat over Pietermaritzburg for 4 hours on Saturday evening, the risk of a wet track was not to anyones likings as the soil tends to turn to ice making even the Worlds best struggle down the hill on the clay based surface.

Thankfully for all the competitors the weather improved next morning and the track dried through practice.

When Marc took to the track for his race run the course was looking in great conniption but a mistake on the steepest part of the track meant he lost valuable time on the first sector, with the bit between his teeth he pushed hard on the lower two thirds to bring that time back, a credible 4.06.854 was a agonising 4 seconds off the podium but only good enough for 18th on the day.

Gee's turn and he had been given a tall task as Australian Mick Hannah had set a blistering time up on the top section, Gee struggled to get going on the top but turned things around on the lower and middle sections. He flew into the finish arena just 4 tenths behind Hannah.

Reigning World Cup champion Aaron Gwin bettered Hannah's time only to see hometown hero Greg Minnar push hard in front of the home crowd to claim the win. Gee happy with 4th made the podium once again and started the season on the right foot while Marc eyes up the next round in Italy where both he and Gee have won previously.

A big break to that race in June, enough time for Gee's sister Rachel to return to racing and start her assault on World Cup glory.

GT Bicycles fast femme fatale from France, Manon Valentino future US Olympic hopeful Jordan Miranda both earned hard fought for and coveted wins at the UCI/USABMX Super Nationals this weekend in Desoto Texas.

Valentino came to Texas to use the race as a warm up for the upcoming UCI SX event in California but did a little more than that by winning the Elite Womens class against a talented field of international competitors on the first day of the event. Manon backed up the win with a 2nd on Sunday after battling through the pack that included the 2011 USABMX #1 woman Dominique Daniels. The great performance will add to Valentino’s momentum going into the upcoming UCI SX event in San Diego.

An equally impressive performance was exhibited by US teammate Jordan Miranda. Desoto was the first race back for the Bakersfield California native after recovering from a serious foot injury in October that left the 18 year old with a plate and pins in his heal. The time off rejuvenated Miranda in his comeback by taking wins both days in deeply stacked Junior Mens class which is the platform for future Olympians to prove themselves. Jordan proved that he and his 2012 GT Speed Series XXL are forces to be reckoned with.

The rest of the GT Factory BMX Team followed suit with a string of stellar performances. The baddest 9 year old in the World, Jack "Cannonball" Kelly locked down wins in 9-10 Open and 9 Expert. Jonas Harmon, the team’s constant ray of sunshine keeping everyone upbeat battled a wily field of bar-bangers to with a pair of 2nds in 26-30 Cruiser and 3rd in 28-35 Expert. They were followed up by the teams elder statesman Eric "Big Daddy" Rupe. The legend showed his track savy by dominating the 46-50 Cruiser class along with a 1st and a second in 41 & Over Expert.

Other honorable mentions go out to Frenchman Quentin Caleyron with a 6th in Elite Men on Sunday and some very impressive racing from Dutchman Martijn Jaspers.

The team will take a short break and will convene on Chula Vista California on March 30, 31 & April 1 for the next stop on the USABMX schedule and the first event of the 2012 UCI SX season.

The 2012 GT BMX Factory BMX Team is proud to be supported by Alpine Stars, GoPro cameras, Tioga tires, Alienation rims, Troy Lee Designs helmets, SDG seats and posts, Lizard Skins grips, KMC chains FSA, Shimano, Box Components and Sapim spokes.

Rob Wise and Sunsets & Sodas flew to Australia to hang out with Dave Dillewaard for a few weeks. Dave had a hard crash off camera like 2 days into the trip and he destroyed his hands. He will definitely need stitches in one hand but after Rob showed him how to close the cut with super glue he wrapped them up, put gloves on and he shredded every day. Big thanks to Dave for the effort and a big shout out to GT Bicycles for sending us over. This is Dave Dillewaard In OZ.

The GT Factory Racing Team is raring to go at the first World Cup of 2012! The team launched its striking new look while out on their pre-season training camp in Newport Beach, California.

The strong design heritage of GT bicycles’ race teams was always going to be a hard act to follow but the team have worked with GT's designers and new apparel sponsor ONE Industries to put together a sleek and professional look for the 2012 season. On board the team issue GT Fury and decked out in the latest ONE industries kit, the team showed off the black, yellow and white colour-way that will be gracing mountain bike events around the globe this year. "We've gone for a subtler look this year for our main race kit but don’t worry, we'll be mixing it up with a few other offerings from ONE as the year progresses" said 2008 World Champion Rachel Atherton

Finalising a three year deal with Shimano this winter means the team will be running Shimano Saint groupsets, Shimano shoes, and Atherton edition Pro components aboard the quiver of GT bikes. Also gracing the bikes will be Fox suspension products, which in turn will be supported by Fox's race program, custom tuning and product support from world class technicians. New team member Marc Beaumont said '’Switching to the Shimano and Fox components this off season has been smoother than I expected, the Fury hasn't felt this good in years!"

Continental continues to supply the 'Black Chili' rubber for the team which keeps the bikes firmly on line. "Working with Continental is really good for me right now, they have a whole host of tyres that I can use for enduro, I'm favouring the Rubber Queen and Baron at the moment they are both so good’ Mentioned eldest sibling Dan

Meanwhile E-13 supply the chain-guides, new sponsor FSA supply the headsets, Stan’s No Tubes keeps the guys inflated, while tibolts.co.uk finishes off the build to ensure the weight of the bikes is kept to a minimum.

Hitting up races the world over the team have again selected the Mercedes Vito Sport as our vehicle partner for 2012, "The amount of miles we do in the Vito Sports is amazing, I think we clocked up over 60'000 last year alone yet the van is still awesome, as perfect for those long trips between races as it is for nipping down to the local trails' commented Gee Atherton.

Using the amazing Alpi Bike Resort in Torinio, Italy as its base for the summer the team’s schedule will take in the full World Cup circuit, Crankworx Canada and Europe, Mega Avalanche, Super Enduros, select BDS events as well as Rampage and a host of other Enduro events.

Hans Rey, Richie Schley and Joscha Forstreuter in dizzying altitudes

It is the long-cherished dream of any outdoor athlete to explore new terrain; to climb a new route in absolute remoteness, to run a first-descent waterfall or to ride a mountain bike trail that has never been attempted before. With that intent in mind, Hans Rey, Richie Schley, and Joscha Forstreuter travelled to the Indian Himalayas. Their goal: to reach the mysterious Roopkund Lake, a glacial lake in the Uttarakhand region, famous for hundreds of ancient human skeletons at its bottom, and to ride down a sheer endless technical downhill over 3,500 vertical meters on trails that nobody has ever ridden before. A 26-minute TV highlight show about the expedition will be aired worldwide in spring and summer 2012.

Tyler McCaul This Week In SoCal

Tyler McCaul checks in for after some time in SoCal and hanging out with Fox.

Just got back home from a sweet week in SoCal. Fox brought me down there along with Stevie Smith, Danny Hart, and Kirt Vories to test some new product and hangout for the week. The first day we met up and went to Supercross in Anaheim which was pretty cool. We got to ride for the rest of the week and we rode some rad trails down there that I've never ridden before. It was super fun to get to ride with those dudes and try to keep up to their pace on the trails. We did a bit of filming too and there should be some edits from that coming out soon.

While I was down there Osiris put up an edit that we filmed a few weeks ago. I wanted to send it out to you guys sooner but I didn't have any internet while I was away. The vid is just a recap of my injuries and talks a bit about bouncing back from them and being ready for this season. I wanted to have more riding in it but almost as soon as we started filming Greg Watts crashed hard, and we had to call the ambulance, ending the session. Here's the edit though if you wanna check it out...

I just finished up doing an interview for Decline Magazine's "12 Things" Section and that should be coming out in the next issue I think. I'll be sure to send out a copy once that comes out in print.

The start of the 2012 UCI/USABMX points campaign kicked off this weekend in Oldsmar Florida. The event would attract 50 of the worlds fastest Elite Mens BMX racers all vying for the coveted UCI points that will pave the way to the top of their respective countries team standings in hopes to earn the all important spot to represent their country at the 2012 Olympics in London in August.

The GT Elite Mens team was in full force lead by 2011 UCI World Champion Joris Daudet of France, 2011 Belgian National Champion Arnaud Dubois, 2011 US National Champion Corben Sharrah and 2008 Olympic Silver Medalist Mike Day. All were looking fast on their GT Speed Series bikes on the technical track but the holeshot was key on the narrow track.

Joris was showing his 2011 dominance throughout the day on Saturday but an outside gate position in the final would hold him wide into turn one. The hard charging Frenchman would come from behind to earn a very respectable 5th. He would have the misfortune of a fall in his first moto on Sunday taking a hit to the head that would keep him out the rest of the day.

The technicality of the track would suit the skill and saavy of Mike Day by owning his qualifying rounds Saturday and Sunday. Mike would fall victim to the first straight “squeeze” getting caught up in the pack and would only make as far as his semi on Sunday. Mike did leave an impression on the class letting them know he is back to race form from his injury.

GT teammates Corben Sharrah and Arnaud Dubois would fall short in attempts to make the finals but were looking to be contenders. They will be charging harder at the next race.

Amateur team members Sean Gaian and Eric “Big Daddy” Rupe picked up the slack and had stellar weekends by winning practically every lap they took. Sean would show his dominance in the ultra tough Junior Development class and the 15 Expert division. The 47 year-old Rupe took it to the Cruiser and Expert classes with wins in both classes.

The team will rest up and prepare for the next stop on their schedule in Desoto Texas at the USABMX Super Nationals March 16th-18th.

The 2012 GT BMX Factory BMX Team is proud to be supported by Alpine Stars, GoPro cameras, Tioga tires, Alienation rims, Troy Lee Designs helmets, SDG seats and posts, Lizard Skins grips, KMC chains FSA, Shimano, Box Components and Sapim spokes.

Martijn at Red Bull Crashed Ice

Martijn checks in from the Red Bull Crashed Ice

I was asked to attend in a side event at the Redbull Crashed Ice in Valkenburg, Netherlands. We were going to race down the track with 3 other riders on mountainbikes with ice spikes. It was going be my first experience on ice, onboard a Speed series Pro 26". To get better grip I installed close to 400 screws in each tire, which added an extra 1.5 kg of weight per tire. The result was outstanding, I had more grip on ice then with normal tires on the road.

As we came down the 575m long track, it looked surreal from my point of view. Also during the training runs the 7m high starthill with a 50 degree drop down and some cool jumps made it look really cool. The head organisation of Red Bull International were a bit sceptic in the beginning about riding with bikes on ice, but after seeing us ride it down the track they were thrilled with the event. After some runs we came quite close to the fastest skate time's and we didn't even go full pull.

During the event 25.000 people were around the track and it was broadcaster to milions of people on Redbull.tv and national televisions in contries like USA and Germany. We had to do a planned run so the action was good for video and audience, so I took holeshot and let the others pass after the 11meter famous Dutch Mountains double jump.

It was 1 live run which was awesome. I had a really good weekend and loved riding on ice. We have already spoken about a new plan for next year with the organizers, so we'll see. But for now, it's Olympics training time and I'm leaving to California for a training camp for 1 month on March 1 followed by the UCI Supercross Worldcup in Chula Vista, CA.

	Talk to you guys soon!

	-Martijn
