Mike Day is on a Roll: 1st Place at Kingston Cup

Kingston, Ontario Canada 9/6/2008

Randy Stumpfhauser:
Elite Men Time Trial:   5th
Elite Men Final:  7th

After Stumpy smoked the competition last weekend at the NBL Grands, he was ready to do the same here in Canada at the inaugural ERA Kingston Cup.  With the huge pro purse being offered, you can bet that every rider in the field would be riding on the edge trying to get to the front of every moto.  Randy did really well in the time trial, as he ended up finishing fifth out of over 30 riders.  He blazed through the motos and semi finals and was ready to lay it down in the main.  With one lap for the money, it was go time and Randy was amped and ready.  Unfortunately for the newly crowned NBL Elite Men’s Champion, Randy had a bit of an early gate start, hitting it just a bit as it fell and pretty much put him in the back of the pack right away.  Try as he did, it just wasn’t in the cards for him to do any better than he did.  All in all, just making the main was a great accomplishment and we at GT are still WAY proud to say Stumpfhauser rides a GT.

Mike Day:
Elite Men Time Trial:   13th
Elite Men Final:  1st

First the Olympic silver medal, now first place at the ERA Kingston Cup!  In the words of Mugatu,  “that Mike Day is so HOT right now”.  Mike looked really good in practice and was an easy pick to win the time trial AND the main event.  Unfortunately for Mike, in both runs of the time trial, he badly bonked the same jump and killed his chances for the win.  Being the skilled rider and mental giant that he is, he regrouped and turned it on for the motos and semi finals and was ready for the main.  When you’re hot, you’re hot and when that gate dropped in the main, Mike was flat out gone.  He won from wire to wire with a smooth and flawless lap.  He makes it look so easy, but if you’ve ever ridden or raced a BMX bike, you KNOW it isn’t.  For his efforts, he earned a nice, fat $10,000 check.  No doubt it was the single biggest payday in BMX for 2008.  Congrats Mike and keep the ball rolling.

See GT’s Mike Day and Joey Bradford next in Salt Lake City at the UCI SX on the Dew Action Sports Tour, September 12 & 13, 2008.
