I used to cycle competitively at school level, but got out of the game during my varsity years and first working years, however, when my wife recently had a knee operation we were told that cycling is the only exercise that could be done. I went into my nearest shop and found this machine.

What a bicycle.. This single piece of engineering beauty has rekindled a joy within me that got lost along the way during the competitive years. Last night, my wife was watching a movie, I took some time to just look at it. In white and blue it looks like something that should be on a poster on a wall.

Thank you GT for building this machine and awakening the child within me once more. I am a GT customer for life.

Comments about gt Karakoram 3.0 Hydr:

Had the bike for a couple of weeks, and tested it out in the neighborhood to get used to it and learn the shifters. Today, I finally took it out on the trail. This is my first mountain bike and first ride on a trail. I had a blast. The bike responded to the mud, hard pack, and tight trails well. On the hard pack I pushed the speed, and on the tight trails the brakes and shifting met each challenge. For a true beginner, the intermediate trail was great and the bike did all I asked of it. It handled the dips well. The front derailleur was a bit problematic, but I only used it on the hard pack portion. In the trail, the rear derailleur kept up with the rapidly changing inclines and declines as I wanted. The brakes kept me in control through tight turns and unexpected obstacles (roots and taller rocks). For a novice, I would recommend this bike. My friend another true first timer had new Trek Mamba and after switching liked my bike a bit better. We did about 8 to 9 miles over various beginner and intermediate trails and loved it. This bike meets my seal of approval, but again it was my first time ever. Thanks GT.

With my contact sport and running days behind me, I decided that cycling was the best way to stay in shape and get outdoors. Having been out of the cycling game for so long, I needed a serious upgrade from the bike my dad had hidden in my ceiling one Christmas back in the 90's.

And so I started the task of trying to find the perfect bike. With a modest budget and limited technical knowledge of components, finding a suitable bike was difficult at first. Until the day I spotted the Karakoram 3.0. What a great looking bike. I wanted it immediately. For weeks I read every review I could about the bike. SOLD.

I have used the bike at least 3 times a week since I bought it. The great thing about this bike is that it has suited any trail or road route that I have attempted. The 29er frame and the Maxxis tyres make pavements seem like small bumps and for a relative novice, I have not yet had any major falls. The bike has a stable ride even in heavy coastal winds and the brakes are responsive.

Obviously this is not a top of the range, full spec mountain bike. But as far as value for money, looks and easy performance goes you can't beat it. A few punctures aside, this bike has given me every bit of joy that I imagined since the first moment that I saw it. In future when I look at upgrading, GT will be my first stop without a doubt.
