“I knew this would happen. So proud!” Victory for Maes
The wet and wild trails of Tweed Valley, Scotland would provide the backdrop for the final EWS race of the 2021 season, and Martin Maes’ return to top step on the podium.
After battling personal ups and downs since his last win in 2019, Maes would finally feel like himself on his bike once again. A tough battle would unfold between himself and Jessie Melamed over the two days of racing, but Martin’s laser precision riding would pay off in the end. Heading into the last stage 2 seconds back on the lead, Martin was determined not to be defeated and gave everything he had to take the stage win and the coveted first place overall of the race.
Noga Korem also adapted well to the cold and slick conditions to ride an incredibly strong race. Maintaining her upbeat attitude and consistent speed over the 6 stages she would finish 4th on the day, and round out the season in 5th overall.
Wyn Masters returned to racing after breaking his hand a few weeks prior and rode into a respectable 46th place.
To top off the day, the team would stand together on the podium as third fastest on the day. A celebratory moment for everyone to relish heading into the off season.
Congratulations to Martin and all-of the GT Factory Racing team for an emotional and action-packed season!
